John Trickey and other Liberal Democrat Town Councillors in Deal are campaigning for a Memorial Garden where children and young people who die can be remembered by their family and friends, especially by other young people. Councillor Trickey, who is also chairman of Deal Carnival, identified a site for the Garden on land owned by the District Council. Liberal Democrats are pressing for funding to meet the modest costs of maintaining garden, including providing disabled access. Councillor Trickey said, "Losing a child is a terrible experience and the garden should be a tasteful memorial place and comfort to those left behind, especially other young people." The campaign has been supported by Baroness Ros Scott, president of the Liberal Democrat party, who recently visited Deal.
