Patrick Acarnley, Liberal Democrat candidate, for Mill Hill ward said: "Our local canvassing is revealing real anger from the electorate about MP's expenses abuse and the same culture of secrecy among local politicians." Patrick Acarnley said local voters are incensed by the lack of transparency: "Deal town council's refusal to make public the damning audit report, paid for by the Deal electorate, about how their money has been managed and spent, is as shameful as the antics of national politicians." He said: "Labour and the Conservatives MPs top the list of abusers and now it turns out Labour's chancellor needs financial consultants to minimise his tax liability; and he claims that cost on expenses!" "These expense revelations are destroying democracy in this country. Remember it was Labour and the Conservatives that voted for the illegal Iraq war, supposedly in the name of democracy, costing thousand of lives and billions of pounds, yet through their greed, they have dealt a death blow to one of the world's oldest democracies. This is hypocrisy in the extreme," Patrick Acarnley said. "The only solution is change by electing two fresh, new councillors. And that is what we can offer voters on the 4th June in terms of bringing balance, proper control procedures and transparency to Deal town council," Patrick Acarnley said.
