It's only a few months since the sudden resignation of two Labour Councillors in Mill Hill Ward who quit in disgust at what was going on within the Labour Group at Deal Town Hall.
As you know, this "safe seat" Labour ward suddenly went Liberal Democrat, with a convincing victory, and as a result, the Town Hall was given a breath of fresh air, and fresh thinking.
Now there is another chance. On December 3rd, Deal North goes to the polling station, again, as a result of a Labour councillor walking off the pitch.
Nathan Sewell has lived in Deal all his life. He runs a business providing specialist care for the disabled. So, he has personal first-hand knowledge of the state of social services, and knows what local businessmen face.
"Rates for local businesses keep going up. The Conservatives say a lot but do nothing. We need to give some fresh impetus to helping those who want to see the centre of Deal thrive - for example, car parking charges that make out-of-town-shopping attractive is a nonsense.
"We need to care more for the environment. Local Conservatives are pushing plans to build 10,000 homes on green fields. What thought is there for the infrastructure, the schools, the post office, the doctors surgery, the roads, and the car parking if this goes ahead?" Nathan says he is saddened by the decision to sell off Sheltered Housing for the elderly in College Road.
"The Conservatives at a stroke reduce local choice, reduce care for the elderly, and at the same time, fill the pockets of properly speculators.
"If they had listened, they could have given these buildings to a Housing Association."
Labour "walk away" as they have no answers, says Nathan It's a chance, says Nathan, for local people to inject some fresh thinking into debates at the Town Hall.
Polling Day is Thursday December 3rd, and Nathan Sewell is working hard to win.
